Keystone in Hunting Creek

Prospect's first neighborhood

Hunting Creek is the subdivision the City of Prospect grew from: about 945 single-family homes and townhomes around Hunting Creek Country Club, off US 42 in northeast Jefferson County. The neighboring Estates of Hunting Creek adds a couple of hundred more homes on larger lots, many along the golf course.

Most Hunting Creek homes were built in the 1970s through the 1990s. They're large, well-sited houses whose kitchens, baths and floor plans are ready for a rethink. We open formal layouts into kitchen-family spaces, rebuild primary suites, finish lower levels and add sunrooms and screened porches facing the course, with City of Prospect plan review and HOA approval handled as part of the design.

Know the place

Farmland, a country club and a new city

The area along US 42 stayed agricultural into the 1960s; the name Prospect comes from an 1870s railroad station. Hunting Creek Country Club was founded in June 1964 as a private family club, and the subdivision grew around it.

When the City of Prospect incorporated in 1974, Hunting Creek was its first neighborhood, and the Hunting Creek partridge appears on the city seal. The club today has an 18-hole course, tennis courts, an Olympic-size pool and a clubhouse.

In April 2024, an EF2 tornado crossed US 42 into Hunting Creek, bringing down large trees and damaging roofs. Some homes are still finishing repairs, and many owners are combining them with long-planned updates.

Large homes on generous lots

Hunting Creek's homes date mostly from the 1970s through the 1990s, with some built after 2000: large four- and five-bedroom houses alongside townhome sections. Streets such as Foxcroft Road, Deep Creek Drive, Harrods View Circle, Wythe Hill Circle and Riding Ridge Road wind around the course.

Each section has its own homeowners association, and the Estates of Hunting Creek, reached from Covered Bridge Road, has its own architectural modification process. Part of the Estates extends into Oldham County, which changes which permits apply.

Permits & approvals

City of Prospect plan review

Prospect has its own Land Development Code and permitting department, and Hunting Creek's sections have their own HOAs.

Rules change. We confirm the current requirements for your address before design is finished. How permitting works in Louisville →

  1. Prospect Permits & Code Enforcement

New homes, additions, decks, garages and pools are submitted to the city with a plot plan (house, lot, dimensions and easements) and construction drawings.

  2. City fees and deposits

Prospect charges permit fees by type and square footage, with deposits for new construction and demolition, and requires a permit for a dumpster before it's placed.

  3. HOA architectural approval

Each section's HOA, including the Estates of Hunting Creek, reviews exterior modifications. Prospect City Hall can provide HOA contacts.

  4. Trade permits

Electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits also apply; Oldham County addresses follow Oldham County's process.
